In this indenture, Edward Thorburn (described as a young free man of color of 13 years of age) is sponsored by his mother, Betsie Burt (described as a free woman of color), as an apprentice to Thiac & Maignan & Duraud to learn to be a blacksmith. In French.</br></br>Indentures in which at least one party was a free person of color were selected from among all of the indentures available.
