FOUR HUNDRED DOLLARS REWARD
Baltimore, June 2, 1780.
RAN away, from the subscriber’s plantation, on Hunting-Ridge, a Negro Man named TOM, he is a stout fellow, 5 feet 9 or 10 inches high, stoops when he walks, and is a little knock-knee’d, understands something of the carpenter’s and calking business, has a scar across his nose, which now appears red, and is about 21 years old: Had on and took with him, when he went away, an old blue outside jacket, one red under ditto, one pair old leather breeches, one pair white yarn stockings, one pair of strong shoes, one tow linen shirt, and an old round hat. He was seen at Baltimore, a few days ago, and I suppose he is now secreted in some part of the town, by some of his acquaintance. He was bought at Fredericksburg, in Virginia, and if not in Baltimore, ‘tis highly probable he may be endeavouring to get there again. Whoever takes up and secures said Negro, so that his master may get him again, shall have, if taken in Baltimore, Fifty Dollars; if 20 miles from home, One Hundred Dollars; if 50 miles, Two Hundred Dollars; and if 100 miles, the above Reward, and in proportion for a greater distance, and reasonable charges, paid by
DANIEL CARROLL.
N.B. All masters of vessels are forbid to carry him off at their peril.
