The slave WILSON was com-mitted to the Wilkinson County jail on the 17th; age 21; 5 feet 6 inches tall; spare built; "likely and sprightly appearance;" scar on breast 2-3 inches long; small scars on shoulders; wewaring dove col-ored twilled casimere pantaloons, brown colored figured silk vest and round jacket of small yellow striped gingham— all a good deal worn— and a new cotton shirt; had on him a pass purporting to be written by James Baloo authorizing the boy to hire himself out as a brick layer; Wilson acknowledged he wrote the note himself. Gordon was a bricklayer at Donaldsonville. The sheriff warned the owner that the jail was very insecure and not up to receiving Negroes as a public jail. He warned the owner that his slave could easily escape.
