Jail of Adams County. WAS Committed to the Jail of Adams county on the 12th instant, as a runaway, a dark-ish yellow man, by the name of JOSEPH AN-DERSON, who says that he is free, and that he was born about 25 miles from New-York, and that he served 3 years on board of the Steam Packet Boat, as a Cook ; he is 5 feet 6 inches high, and has a scar on his left jaw, he has got several certificates, from different persons, pur-porting him to be free, and of good character. Also, was Committed on the 17th instant, as a runaway, a negro girl, who says that her name is NANCY SMITH, and that she is also free, that she was born in New-York, and that she a millen er by trade, that she served her time, at that trade, in Nova Scotia; she is rather of a yellowish complexion, about 5 feet high, well clothed, has a very modest appearance, says she is about 26 years of age. The owners of the above described negroes (if they have any,) are requested to come for-ward, comply with the law, and take them away. R. H. May, Jailor, February 18, 1824. 18—
