Advertisement from The Southern Sun, January 29, 1839, describes a man who can play well on the violin who claims to be enslaved by William Petrie of Brandon, Rankin County, Mississippi. Does not say his name as Abram, but states he was committed to the jail of Perry, County Missisippi on November 19, 1838.

RANAWAY from the subscriber, on the 28th June last, a mulatto man, named BOB, commonly called Bob Tiry. Bob is 28 years of age, about 5 feet 8 1/2 inches high,— a remarkably fine looking fellow,—makes use of good language, and speaks very mildly; he can write, is a carpenter, and also a wheelwright, by trade; was purchased at Lynchburg, Va.— 50 dollars, and expenses, will be paid for his delivery to me, if taken in this state; if taken in a slave state, out of Mississippi, 100 dollars and expenses; and should he be taken in a non-slaveholding state, I will pay 500 dollars for him. ALSO—Ranaway on Tuesday night, 30th instant, the following described slaves, viz:— ABRAM, a fine looking, athletic black fellow, 24 years old, 5 feet 10 or 11 inces high, rather thick lips; he plays on the violin, PRESTON is a slender, thick-featured negro boy, (not very black) with downcast, bad look, 5 feet 6 inches high, 20 years old. They rode two horses; one a bay, 16 hands high, 8 years old, one eye out, and has some white on the in-side of his hind feet, paces easy, though not fast; had on remarkably lheavy shoes, all sound. The other a heavy, square built sor-rel, very thick in the wethers, bald face, and both hind legs white nearly to the hock. He is about 15 hands 3 inches high, 9 years old, a tolerable fast pacer. They have both been recently at work in carts. A suitable reward will be paid for the apprehension of the above described negroes and horses, and any inform-ation relative to them, by letter or otherwise, will be gladly received, and cheerfully paid for.
