Large twenty-gallon Jar attributed to David Drake. Although unsigned, this large jar is attributed to “Dave’s” production based on the potting techniques, glaze and sheer size.
Three Gallon Jar. Inscribed “Dave / April 5 / 1855”. Also inscribed “LM” with “/ /” slash marks and three punctuates ***” as capacity marks. This beautifully glazed two-handled jar is distinguished by the well-tooled rim and shoulder treatment. The “Dave” signature and date are executed with an extraordinarily bold flourish.
Thrown, ovoid form with an everted rim, molded base, and an incised line circling the vessel below the neck. A band of impressed, crescent-shaped shaped swags separated by impressed triple-leafed bellflower motifs is below the incised line. A gap between two swags is filled with two impressed bellflowers, one oriented horizontally above another oriented vertically. Below is stamped “COERLEARS / HOOK”; to the right is stamped “N●YORK”.
