Eight Dollars Reward.
RAN AWAY, from the subscriber, living in St. Mary’s County, at St. Inigo’s, on the 23d day of April last, a Mulatto Man, named JOE, but calls himself JOSEPH BROOKS, about 5 feet 4 or 5 inches high, 45 years old or thereabouts, has been severely whipped for his roguish actions, which will appear by his back; he understands the farming business, and can do most kind of carpenter’s work, and an excellent hewer of timber; had on and took with him, a darkish mixed cloth coat, blue and white cotton and yarn country made ditto, two under jackets, one blue the other not remembered, a pair of country cloth striped trousers, one pair of coarse linen ditto, a fine holland shirt almost new, a new felt hat, with several other clothes unknown; he is an artful knowing fellow, and will make his escape, if ever he has the least opportunity, if apprehended. Whoever takes up and secures the above described Slave, so that I get him again, shall be entitled to the above reward, and reasonable charges if brought home.
WILLIAM HERBERT.

N.B. All masters of vessels and others are hereby forewarned harbouring, employing, or entertaining the Slave above-named, as they shall answer it at their peril.
