FORTY DOLLARS REWARD.
RAN AWAY, from the Lancaster Furnace, nine miles from Baltimore-Town, on the 1st day of this inst. a well set NEGRO MAN, named STEPHEN*, about 26 or 27 Years of age, and about 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high; had on and took with him a light blue coat, with metal buttons and redish-coloured cape, deep-blue breeches, two hemp-linen shirts, and two pair of old trousers. He also took with him a fiddle, and plays on it with the left hand. He sometimes wears a soldier’s cap that turns up before, with a feather in it, and a black ribbon round the crown; he has also a hat with him. Whoever takes up said Negro, and secures him so that I get him again, shall have, if 10 miles from home, Four Dollars, if 20 miles Eight Dollars, and so in proportion to the distance that he is taken; and if he is taken out of the State, the above Reward, with reasonable Charges if brought home, will be paid. It is thought he will make for the lower parts of Virginia, as he came from James River, or somewhere thereabout.
JOB GARRETSON. June 2, 1784.
N.B. All Masters of Vessels are forewarned from carrying him off.
