TWO HUNDRED DOLLARS REWARD.
Patuxent, Benedict, Charles County, July 27, 1778.
RAN away, from the subscriber, on the 8th of June last, at night, two Negro men, viz. MOSES and ABRAHAM. Moses is a likely fellow, about 30 years of age, 5 feet 9 inches high, of a yellowish complexion, is a Shoe-maker by trade, and remarkable in having a supernumerary finger to each hand. As he was bred and born on the plantation of Captain Henry Hicks, in Dorset County, and an expert waterman, it was imagined, as soon as he and his companions disappeared, they were attempting to reach the Eastern Shore, and a large Pine canoe, marked G.M. in which they went off, has been since found, turned up in the marsh, near that place. He was for some years the property of Capt. Robert Dowson. ABRAHAM is about 30 years old, 5 feet 8 inches high, of a yellowish complexion, and is a very likely well made fellow. He carried off with him a pair of white ribbed cotton breeches, a fine white shirt, and a white linen waistcoat. It is supposed that there was a Negro man and Woman, the property of Mrs. Maxwell, went off with them; the wench is of a yellowish complexion, and wife to Moses. Any person, securing the above two Negroes, and delivering them safe to the subscriber, shall receive the above reward, or One Hundred Dollars for either of them.
CHARLES SOMERSET SMITH.
