Turned bulbous form with applied eyebrows, kaolin eyes, nose, and an open mouth with kaolin teeth. C-shaped ears are applied to the sides, an applied loop handle is on the back, and pouring spout. All surfaces except for the eyes, teeth, and lips are painted black. The African-American face-vessel pottery tradition established in South Carolina was a milestone in American ceramics history.
